Wow ...
Today was a day I would not like to repeat … seriously an emotional roller coaster, but I am incredibly thankful for friends who let me talk to them about it (on the phone and in person). One thing I have learned over the years is that vulnerability is scary but also necessary in relationships. I don’t know if I handled everything well today, but I did reach out to people and ask...

I take good care of my car
Yesterday I went in for an oil change (which i do about every other month because I drive so much for work) and the guys working on my car kept complimenting me on the good job I do keeping up with car repairs and such. Not that I do anything special, but I just try to follow the recommendations for when things like filters and fluids need to be changed :)
They told me that they wish all...

I have this nagging cough that is not going away no matter how much rest, or fluids, or chicken noodle soup I get. I’ve been sick since Sunday and now that all of the other symptoms of this cold are gone I have suddenly developed a cough and I’m tired of it… I am going to camp this weekend and the last thing I want is to be coughing the whole time and unable to enjoy my time...
quotes from preschool pier
This morning in church my 3 year olds had said lots of funny things … here are my two favorites:
girl “I get to go to a really special store today… it’s called Target!”
boy “I have a booger” (I give him a kleenex) “I got it out … with my finger!”
I could just sit and listen to them all day long they are so cute and they love telling...
a dilema
Earlier this week someone I don’t know super well did something that not only hurt my feelings but made me look bad and I have been trying to decide weather or not to speak up and ask her about her actions or just keep quiet … It’s really bugging me and I really want to know why she did it, but at the same time I don’t want to make things awkward between us when I still...
post holiday lonliness
I had a great time over Christmas and New Years catching up with friends near and far, but this past week I have been coming down from that high and feeling pretty lonely. I realized how much I miss being around my friends and am so thankful that I got to see so many of them the past couple weeks. I just wish we all lived closer to each other and could hang out more than once or twice a year.

2011 reflections
Yup, I’m writing a stereotypical New Year’s post and list ten of the events that stick out to me from the past year, but I will include photos :)
1. I traveled to both Haiti and Ecuador
2. I had close friends move away from Michigan and close friends move back to Michigan
3. I saw 4 good friends get married and the maid of honor for one
4. Someone I’m very close to was...

reunion!
Just spent a few days on the east side of the state reuniting with some of my closest friends from college. It is always so great being with these girls because we have known each other through good times and bad and know each other really well. These are the same girls who I shared traveling pants with, minus one, and though it’s been three years sine we (Meg, Kim and I) graduated...
dislike my boss right now!!
So I’ve come to dread phone calls from work because my boss continues to tell me things I am doing wrong! I’ve had this job for over two years now and I guess there are a lot of policies I still don’t know about becasue I’ve never had issues until recently…
For example my boss called me today and said “remember the policy is ….” well I don’t...
my computer is now virus free!
Thanks to my cousin Lyle who stopped over tonight and fixed everything for me! He said it was a very smart virus and is the “latest and greatest” one that is getting lots of people right now. That makes me feel a little better, but still a little stupid for falling for their scam. Do NOT trust an e-mail that says it’s from the u.s. post office about a package delivery. Do NOT...
this morning at work i was chasing one of my clients through downtown Rockford in the rain when i slipped and fell ripping my jeans and scraping up my knee … not exactly how i wanted to start my day!
ps it’s surprisingly difficult to photography my own knee - i had to raise it above my head to get this photo ;)
lacking motivation
Lots to do today - working with two consumers than straight to church for a class I’m taking and I have absolutely no motivation to do any of it… ugg. I’m open to suggestions if anyone knows a good way to get through the day. Advice anyone?

Love pumpkin!
This year more than ever my weakness for everything pumpkin flavored has been shown! I’ve always loved pumpkin bread and when I discovered pumpkin ice cream a couple years ago I got pretty excited, but seriously last week I was looking through my food and saw ALL this pumpkin stuff … ridiculous but so yummy!
those are pumpkin cookies in the Tupperware and that can of pumpkin was...

Free quiz from the Pew Research Center. I’d love to see what score you all get. Here’s mine:
This is interesting — I scored a 57. I apparently differ with the majority of my generation when it comes to my lack of piercings and tattoos and my lack of desire for a high-paying career. I also don’t generally play video games, but I do read the newspaper. I...
Think Pink :)
I know that October was breast cancer awareness month, but I am still thinking pink in November! Sunday I had a chance to stop and visit with the TerAvest kids (their dad was my youth pastor so I’ve known the family since I was 14). Their mom, Beth, is currently battling breast cancer. I love them so much and it makes me sad to hear the youngest (who is 8) talk about chemo in normal...
feelin' smart tonight
Definitely got the final Jeopardy question right and none of the contestants did! It was even some special champions episode so the people were supposed to be extra smart, lol. Though as my roommate will tell you I was not actually expecting to get it right because the category was business and neither of us know much about that. The question was about some headline in the newspaper for a story...
In the summer I love all the windows in my living room, but on rainy cold November days like today I am reminded of how much I hate these windows in the winter! Thy are big, old, and definitely drafty. Anna and I keep a stack of blankets behind the chair and when people come over we tell them not to sit on the white couch because it’s the coldest spot. Unfortunately, the coldest room in the...

Funny (yet embarassing) story...
Today after work I decided to stop and pick up a couple groceries at D&W in east town and I ran into Rob Bell which could have been a chance to say hi and tell him I go to Mars Hill, but that’s not what happened…. becasue I literally ran into him as in my cart hit his. I wasn’t paying attention where I was walking and he was pushing his daughter in one of those big carts for...
like a mom sending my kids to a party...
I’m starting to feel old becasue last night I was doing homework but stopped to watch and take pictures of my roommate (Anna) and three friends (Lindsey, Alisha, and Annie) getting ready for a Halloween party at my house. I took a group picture before they left and told them to ‘have fun’ when they left. Now, before you accuse me of being too lame understand that it was a...
new camera accessory!
All summer I have been noticing this cool thing my friend Jenna had for her camera - a mini softbox for her flash and finally decided to invest in my own (especially since I had an amazon.com gift card and got free shipping!). Though I don’t have any photography jobs coming up I’m still pretty excited to play with this new little accessory :)

its officially fall
Today I wore a sweater and boots for the first time in a few months … though I saw people wearing flip flops and shorts I decided that it’s officially fall now ;) Time to sort through my clothes and exchange my summer skirts and tank tops for sweaters and jeans. I’m a little sad about this because I love the warm weather and don’t want it to be cold yet!
Last week was...

"celebrate"
I’ve been thinking about this word, the action, and meaning a lot this week and wondering things like why we celebrate birthdays and why do some people love being celebrated and others dread it? I don’t know the answers but thanks to dictionary.com I at least know the definition:
Celebrate-
1. to rejoice in or have special festivities to mark (a happy day, event, etc)
2. ( tr )...
not a great start
This morning has been ridiculously frustrating already and it’s only 10:30! I am leaving soon to photograph a wedding and can only hope that nothing else goes wrong… I got the extra battery stuck in my camera and had to hit it with a remote control to get it out. I almost started to cry because I didn’t want to break my camera! Then I went to unplug my phone from it’s...
my "other family"
Sunday I had a chance to hang out with the people I have considered practically my family at their house and it was pretty great. I have known this family for about 11 years now (their dad was my youth pastor) and their daughter and I have always been especially close. We refer to each other as ‘sister’ (when she was little people always said we looked alike) sometimes since neither of us...

love my GPS
My mom always told me I got my dad’s sense of direction and that I could get lost inside a paper bag … well I don’t know if I’m that bad but I will admit I’m not good with directions! With that said I have a huge appreciation for my tom tom GPS at least once a week when I am unsure of the best way to get from one place to another especially during “construction...

haiti photo book!
I was so excited to get this in the mail that I did a little happy dance :) My first experiment in making a photo book was a big success I used mixbook.com which was easy and affordable. Although it took me a month to create I blame my busy schedule and indecisiveness on the pages. Next time I make a book it shouldn’t take nearly as much time!

I'm back
The couple weeks have been a whirlwind of activity first I finished my two classes for summer semester (got an A and a B which I’m pretty proud of) then went straight to Detroit and then to Ecuador. The day after I got back I had to photograph a wedding and pay my tuition for fall semester. Suddenly it’s the end of August and my new lasses start on Monday- yikes!
Spending time with...
I had just typed out a long post about Ecuador and was searching for a photo to upload then firefox crashed … sometimes i hate the internet … i don’t feel like typing it again now so maybe i will do it tomorrow :(
3 days ... OMG!
For those of you who do not know yet, I am going to Ecuador to visit my best friend Kim in 3 days! First I have to survive my last two days of class and pack and finish editing some engagement photos though…
The only times I’ve ever been out of the country were my two trips to Haiti and I’m so excited to go to South America and spend a week hanging out with Kimmy!!! A lot...
victory!
Or it feels like a victory if registering for classes was a battle (which it was this semester). I have only four classes left that I need to take before starting my internship and it was surprisingly difficult to get two of those in the fall and two in the winter. For a week I have been checking the GVSU website constantly trying to work out the best possible schedule and the best professors,...

my swimsuit grew legs & walked away ...
…at least that is the only explanation I can think of - lol - but seriously I don’t remember the last time I have been unable to find something for longer than a day!
The last time I wore it was at camp two weeks ago so I am trying hard to remember details of that day and where I might have put my suit after I took it off, but I can only remember thinking it was really sandy. My...
