Thanks to my cousin Lyle who stopped over tonight and fixed everything for me! He said it was a very smart virus and is the “latest and greatest” one that is getting lots of people right now. That makes me feel a little better, but still a little stupid for falling for their scam. Do NOT trust an e-mail that says it’s from the u.s. post office about a package delivery. Do NOT then believe your computer has critical errors that can only be fixed by spending $80 on “system fix” software. That not only gives a virus entry into the computer but also gives someone your credit card number!
Tomorrow I have to call my bank and cancel my card/ request a new one and see if I can get any of my money refunded from the scam. I should have known better because yesterday I got an automated call from my card company saying there were questionable charges on my account (the $80) but I approved it because I still thought the software was legitimate.
Lesson(s) learned! I also learned that even if a virus appears to be gone it still resides in hidden files on my computer. If Lyle hadn’t spent an hour deleting it the virus would still be monitoring every key stroke I made… scary…
